Very first room tour of our barn home! I know I haven’t shared much of our home, but I’m working on doing more of that. Since we will most likely be switching some bedrooms around later this year, I wanted to share this room with you before we change it up.
We currently have three kids in one room, and it works really well for us. There is an extra bedroom downstairs, but I’m not quite ready to move any of them down there since our room is upstairs.
I wanted the shared room to be light, airy, and neutral. I was lucky enough to find the quilts when just Olivia and Charlie were sharing the room and for some crazy reason, had my mom pick up an extra one. They are so perfect for a neutral room. I linked a few similar ones since I couldn’t find the exact one. For the curtains we went with a natural color to tie in with the quilts.
When we built our barn, we weren’t sure what the room situations would be from year to year (as far as the little ones- we only had Olivia and Charlie) so we opted to leave out built in closets and go with the IKEA Pax wardrobe system. It’s customizable and can be moved if we choose to change the room up or put it in another room altogether. When we moved Hayes into this room we just ordered another half system and added to the existing closet we had already.
The IKEA Mydal bunk beds are my all time favorite. They go great with a neutral room and are made of wood. We were also able to find the matching crib that converted to a toddler bed, which is what Hayes is sleeping in for now. Once we move the rooms around, the boys will be in the bunk beds, but for now Olivia has top bunk and Charlie is on the bottom one. The rug we picked out has held up really well and goes great with the neutral tones we were shooting for. The dresser is an antique from England that I picked out at a local antique store. To make it tie in more, we chose to switch out the older looking drawer pulls with some from IKEA.
The kids love to draw and read, so we had to make some space in their room for this! The bulletin board is one I picked up from Hobby Lobby SO many years ago, but it gives them a space all their own to put their artwork, special notes or cards, etc on display. The bookshelves we use (one for each kid) came from IKEA and are so much fun to change up and keep in line with seasons or holidays. Our bigger bookshelf is downstairs so it helps to have some in a more convenient place especially in the mornings or at bedtime. The rule around here is stay in your beds until 7 am, so if they wake early this gives them some books to look through until it’s time to get up.
The baby animal prints we used in their room were in the nursery when Hayes was a baby. I saw them on Etsy and fell in love with them, and they turned out to be a good fit for a gender neutral room as well. We added an over the door mirror (mainly for Olivia to do her hair in the mornings), a large cream colored laundry basket, and the smaller matching one for decoration.
Another thing we are really big on is white and neutral walls. It’s SO easy to change rooms up with different decor pieces, wall art, or throw pillows especially if you don’t have to worry about matching the wall color.
I hope you loved taking a peep into their room and what it looks like with three sharing a room around our house! I am going to include links for everything that I can below, but if I missed anything let me know!
xoxo,
Lindsey
