We love to celebrate holidays with different little treats or crafts and decorations! It’s fun for both the kids and for me, and it gives us all something new to look forward to (even though Charlie has already informed me that he doesn’t like St. Patrick’s day because he got pinched last year haha). My original plan was to share ALL of our Valentine favorites in one post, but it sort of got long so I decided to break it up some.
We wanted to make some fun trail-mixy type snacks (totally over here making up words) so we took a recipe that we found and revamped it to our liking. It’s been a huge hit, and I have gotten so many recipe requests so here goes!
Valentine Trail Mix
- 10 cups Skinny Pop popcorn (we used original flavor)
- 2 cups pretzels broken into pieces
- 1 cup small marshmallows
- 1 1/2 cups Valentine M&Ms
- Red, white, or pink sprinkles (or all of the above)-we used red and white
- 12 oz. bag pink Wilton candy melts-the vanilla flavor
Use a large mixing bowl – dump in the popcorn, broken pretzels, marshmallows, and M&Ms. Melt half of the candy melts in glass bowl in microwave- stopping to stir them frequently. While this is melting, lay out a large piece of parchment paper or aluminum foil if you’re out of parchment paper (like me). Once candy melts have melted, pour into large mixing bowl with everything else. Use two rubber spatulas to mix it all well and then pour it all out in a thin layer onto your foil or paper. Now you melt the rest of your candy melts and drizzle over your mixture. Immediately after drizzling it over the top, add your sprinkles before it all hardens.
After it all hardens, break it up and store in an airtight container (we chose a glass one to show all the festive colors) for around a week. It would also make a fun treat to put into the cellophane treat bags and hand out to friends! This recipe would also be really easy to switch up for the different holidays just by switching out M&M, sprinkle and candy melt colors. I hope you guys enjoy it as much as we do!
Hugs,
Lindsey
