We snuck away to Lake Tahoe for a few days to celebrate our ten year anniversary! I had never been to California, much less beautiful Tahoe. We flew in on a Thursday and headed home on the following Sunday, but it didn’t feel like long enough! The weather was amazing, and everything about it was enchanting. I don’t think I have seen water like that before!
We stayed at The Landing on the water. When we got there, they greeted us with champagne which I thoroughly appreciated after our day of flying. Our room was so cozy and quaint! My favorite parts were the view from the balcony, the fireplace, the heated toilet seat, and heated floors in the bathroom.
We would get up and have a big breakfast then spend the rest of our days exploring. We loved Driftwood Cafe and The Red Hut Cafe for breakfast, and honestly we Door Dashed supper every single night! With the time difference, we were exhausted by 7 pm and the room was so cozy so we just put on pajamas, ordered food, and hung out in our warm and cozy room each night. My favorite day was the day we went to Truckee. We walked around the town arm in arm popping in and out every little store we passed by. I don’t even think we bought anything except some books from a local bookstore, some gloves from a gas station, and s’mores from the bakery there.
I was so obsessed with the Ponderosa Pine trees! They were literally some of the biggest trees I have ever seen! The bark was not flaky like our Pine trees in Mississippi, and they smelled like vanilla! We tried to get some of their seeds to see if we could grow some at home lol. I’m sure that would NOT have worked, but we did try!
We took one day to drive all the way around the lake and up into the mountains. It snowed a small amount that day, but the day we left to go home it was snowing so much!! I was so sad to leave! We had a quick snowball fight at 4 am in the hotel parking lot then headed to the airport. It ended up being the longest day ever- the 6 am flight was delayed for 3 hours due to ice on the plane, which caused us to miss our connecting flight so instead of getting into New Orleans at 3 pm we got there after 10 pm. I did read a whole book that day though haha.
If you are headed to Lake Tahoe, November was a beautiful time to go. The skiing season was about to open (it opened in late November so we missed the skiing), and we were told that summers there are amazing with so much to do on the water. I want to head back for a summer trip with the kids! I felt like we definitely needed more time here, but I was excited to get home and squeeze my babies! If you guys travel to Lake Tahoe make sure you just take some time to ride around and enjoy the beautiful scenery- I hope you all have safe travels in this new year!
xoxo,
Lindsey
