Homemade soap is one of the easiest things you can make, and it lasts such a long time for us! My friend Erin shared this recipe, and once we tried it- it became a favorite for our household. Making your own cuts down on a lot of chemicals, and you can make it smell however you want. I use a goat milk base which takes out several steps. Everything you need can be ordered from Amazon except for the essential oils. I use Young Living, but it’s totally your preference. I will link everything needed at bottom of post.
Ingredients
- a goat’s milk soap base
- soap mold
- coconut oil spray
- essential oils
- silicone or rubber spatula
The first thing I do is cut my blocks of soap base into squares or chunks. The soap base I use comes in two large blocks so I cut each block up, but keep it separated so that I can make 2 different scents. Next, I spray my molds with coconut oil cooking spray and sit the molds in something sturdy like a pyrex dish or on a baking sheet so that I can move them around without messing up shapes of my soap. Once molds are ready, I melt one batch of soap base in a sauce pan over medium heat continuously stirring with my spatula. Once all the soap is melted, I remove from heat and add 15-20 drops of my essential oils and stir well to mix. If I am mixing scents (for example, I like to use Thieves oil and Orange oil together in same batch) I will use 10 of each one. Another favorite is Lemon and Lavender together. If you want your soap to have a texture- this is where you can mix anything extra in. Chia seeds, coffee grounds, sugar, fresh rosemary, etc are all some options. Once it is mixed well, I pour into my molds that I prepared earlier and let sit until hard. You can pop them out and they are ready to use! I like to store mine in a large Ziploc bag (one scent per bag) and pull them out as needed.
Here are the items that I use for my soap making:
Let me know if you try it! They make really sweet gifts or happies for friends too!
