Ok guys- if you know my family then you know they love OREOS… especially Brad lol. So when I was trying to come up with desserts to make for the fourth, we took an old recipe and revamped it to make it red, white, and blue (you could easily change your food color and sprinkles out to make it match any occasion that you need it for). It turned out so cute, and the kids absolutely loved it. It’s also super easy to make and freezes well, too!
I let the kids help out, and that was probably the best part! I knew it was going to be good when I let Vivi lick the mixing bowl, and she literally cleaned every last bit of the cream cheese mixture off of it. Took her a solid thirty minutes, but we let her live her best life. There’s some perks to being the baby of the family, and “licking the bowl” when we bake has become one of them. Ok so back to the bars- we made them all up then let them sit in the freezer to get more solid so they would hold their shape when we cut them because I didn’t have four hours to wait before we ate them. I listed the recipe below with some pics to guide you along!
Ingredients:
How to Make it:
1.Begin with the crust by crushing up a package of the Oreos of your choice
2. Place the Oreos in a food processor and pulse until they are a fine crumb-if you do not have a food processor you can place the Oreos into a gallon plastic bag and beat with a rolling pin
3. Next, melt the butter and pour it into a bowl along with the crushed up Oreos
4. Add in a few drops of red food coloring and stir
5. Press the mixture into a 9×13 baking dish using fingers to cover the bottom of the dish
6. Chill the crust in the freezer for 20-30 minutes or until the crust is firm – can also place into the refrigerator for at least an hour until firm
7. Now, starts on the cheese cake layer by adding cream cheese to a mixer and beating until soft, once soft add in sugar and vanilla extract and mix until well combined
8. Fold in the crushed Oreos and cool whip into the cream cheese mixture
9. Spread this mixture on top of the now firm crust
10. Cover and refrigerate for 4 hours or until set
11. It’s finally time to add some toppings-once removed from the refrigerator top with remaining crushed Oreos and red, white, and blue sprinkles- you could also add a cup of blueberries, raspberries, or strawberries if you do not want to use sprinkles
12. Enjoy!
I can’t wait for you to try these bars, I know you are going to love them!
